Media reports have surfaced that an unnamed official from Taiwan's Aviation Police Bureau said yesterday (Friday) that an alert was received on Wednesday about a possible attack, to be carried out by a female armed with explosives, targetting one of the flights operated by a Hong Kong-based airline over this weekend. It was also said that the assailant would board on the flight in Mainland China.
Hong Kong-based Apple Daily has posted video interviews of travellers returning from Mainland China since yesterday and some have reported that security has been tightened at airports in the country. There have been no official statements from Cathay Pacific, Dragonair and Hong Kong Airlines, which operate flights between the Special Administrative Region and the mainland, but unnamed spokespersons have been quoted stating that staffs have been briefed on the alert and asked to remain vigilant.
Travellers with plans to fly between Mainland China and Hong Kong are advised to head to the airport early in case security checks take longer than usual. Business Traveller Asia-Pacific will continue to monitor the situation.
