Mandarin Oriental, Manila to close later this year

5 Jun 2014 by Tamsin Cocks

Mandarin Oriental (MO) will close its existing property in Manila later this year, however the group will open a new hotel in the city in 2020.

According to the group, the reason for closing the current hotel is that it's nearly 40 years old and the infrastructure and facilities are no longer in keeping with MO’s standards.

The closure means that the group will be forced to terminate the contracts of most of the employees working at the hotel.

In a statement, Torsten van Dullemen, general manager of the hotel said: “All hotel colleagues have been informed of the forthcoming closure and will receive full and fair severance payment and appropriate professional guidance”.

The new Mandarin Oriental, Manila will be owned and developed by Ayala Land Hotels & Resorts, but managed by MO. Located in Makati City, the property will feature 275 rooms and offer a number of dining outlets as well as a signature spa.

Further information of the project will be released once details are confirmed.
