Asiana Airlines has taken delivery of its first Airbus A380.
The airline has become the world’s 11th operator of the superjumbo. It has a further five A380s on order.
Asiana’s A380 features a three-class configuration that offers 12 suites in first class, 66 in business and 417 in economy. All seats are equipped with on-demand inflight entertainment systems.
“We are delighted to receive our first A380 today, which is key to our future vision and fleet modernisation strategy”, said Park Sam Koo, chairman of Kumho Asiana Group. “I am confident that Asiana can further enhance its level of customer service and that the A380 will play a significant role in helping us to remain at the forefront of the airline business.”
The carrier will initially deploy the superjumbo on regional services in Asia including Tokyo, Hong Kong and Bangkok starting mid-June (see here). This is to facilitate the crew familiarisation process. The airline will be eventually put the aircraft on long-haul operations to destinations such as Los Angeles.
The delivery is part of Asiana’s widebody fleet modernisation strategy, which also includes orders for 30 A350 XWB aircraft.
