Flybe to launch Hamburg and Oslo routes

20 May 2014 by GrahamSmith

Flybe will operate two new daily routes from Birmingham Airport to Hamburg and Oslo this winter, it was announced today.

The regional carrier will fly both services from October 26 until March 27 next year.

It is also extending six summer routes — from Birmingham to Cologne, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Florence, Oporto and Reykjavik — to all-year round services and will continue to operate up to 28 weekly flights to these destinations.

As a result of these moves, Flybe estimates carrying an additional 100,000 passengers a year from Birmingham.

Fred Kochak, Flybe's UK routes director, said: "Flybe already connects more than 1.5 million passengers a year from Birmingham both domestically and throughout Europe.

"Today's news further demonstrates our commitment to providing direct air-links from the regions of the UK, which means passengers do not have to face long road or rail journeys to south-east hub airports."

In total, Flybe will operate up to 350 flights a week from Birmingham on 26 routes as part of its 2014/15 winter schedule.

Last month, the airline announced a major expansion at London City Airport that will see new services to Edinburgh, Belfast, Dublin, Inverness and Exeter (see news, April 23).
