12 May 2014 by Clement Huang

Qatar Airways has released further details regarding its impending move to Hamad International Airport (HIA) later this month.

According to the Gulf carrier, the newly opened airport will feature 138 check-in counters across five islands. Among them, 108 have been designated for Qatar Airways’s economy passengers, as well as all other airlines. Meanwhile, there will be 14 seated check-in areas for Qatar Airway’s first class passengers, and 16 counters for those travelling on business.

HIA opened at the end of last month and now serves 10 carriers including Fly Dubai, Air India Express and Pakistan International Airlines (see here). There are five concourses, three of which are operational with the other two to be unveiled at a later date.

The airport currently operates 41 contact gates, and the number will increase to 65 once the remaining two concourses are open. Six of the gates are dedicated to serving the A380, of which Qatar Airways has 13 on order with the first due for delivery in July.
