6 May 2014 by ReggieHo

China Airlines plans to debut the advanced Panasonic eX3 in-flight entertainment (IFE) system on its new B777-300ER fleet, which is scheduled for delivery starting September.

The new IFE system features a high-resolution 18-inch screen, and other than video, music and games, offers social media, e-magazines and news. Passengers will also be able to browse duty-free products with it.

With multi-touch technology, users can swipe the screen as they would do with a smartphone or tablet. The repertoire includes hundreds of movies, short films, and more than 20 video games. The "Personal play list" function allows the passenger to save programmes for viewing at a later time, and friends on the same flight may use the social media functionality to chat or share favorite music, movies, or games.

Finally there is the inflight wifi, which passengers can use to obtain free information about the weather and destinations. Internet access can be purchased by 1-hour, 3-hour, or 24-hour options, with prices starting at NT$300 (US$10).

A promotion giving out free trials of unrestricted Internet access is currently on to celebrate the launch of this new system. Visit www.china-airlines.com
