United unveils seat plan for B787-9

11 Apr 2014 by Clement Huang

United Airlines, the North American launch customer for the Boeing B787-9, will begin flying the Dreamliner non-stop between Los Angeles and Melbourne from October 26.

As reported previously by Business Traveller Asia-Pacific (see here), the carrier will retrofit the B787-9 with a three-class configuration, with 48 seats in business (Business First), 63 in premium economy (Economy Plus), and 204 in economy.

A seat plan has been released on United’s official website, which details the seat configurations of each cabin class. As expected, the seat layout seen in the B787-9 mirrors that of the older B787-8, with business class sporting a 2-2-2 setting, while premium economy and economy both share a 3-3-3 configuration.

In terms of the interior, the B787-8 and B787-9 will share the same types of seats. However, as the B787-9 is 63m long – the B787-8 is only 57m – United has been able to accommodate 12 more seats in business, 18 more in premium economy, and three additional seats in economy.
