BA to serve destinations beyond Doha using Qatar Airways

7 Apr 2014 by Alex McWhirter

Qatar Airways' membership of Oneworld is at last yielding fruit.

Effective immediately, fellow alliance member British Airways will begin using Qatar Airways to serve destinations that it cannot economically serve itself.

At the same time, Qatar Airways will take advantage of BA's domestic and short-haul European network to cover cities which it has no immediate plans to serve directly from Doha.

What BA and Qatar Airways are doing is similar in scope to what Oneworld member Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airways are offering over Doha (see news, April 1).

Details have just emerged on airlineroute.net that BA will from tomorrow offer flights via Doha to destinations in East Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh using Qatar Airways beyond the Gulf.

Logically, one would expect that other cities in India and south-east Asia — destinations which our readers are hoping that BA would serve direct from London — will follow in the future.

Qatar Airways flights will codeshare on BA flights out of Heathrow to UK domestic cities, with the exception of Edinburgh which will be served non-stop from Doha in May, along with Amsterdam and Hamburg. Others may follow.

Flights can be booked on the respective airline websites.
