SIA upgrades Amsterdam route to B777-300ER

24 Mar 2014 by Alex McWhirter

Singapore Airlines is next week upgrading its Amsterdam service from a two-class B777-200ER to a newer three-class B777-300ER.

The Boeing 777-300ER, which will be deployed on the route from March 31, will have the latest seating in both its business and economy cabins (to view a seatplan, click here).

However, the aircraft will only be added to daily flights SQ323 and SQ324 on four days each week, with the B777-200ER being deployed on the other three days, according to airlineroute.net.

The B777-300ER will operate the outbound Singapore to Amsterdam service on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and the return Amsterdam to Singapore flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Many will say it is about time this route was upgraded as SIA's service to Holland has stagnated (way back in the 1980s when I flew on the airline's Amsterdam route it was deploying a B747).

This is in stark comparison with Emirates, which has only been serving Amsterdam for a few years but has already upgraded its service from a B777-200 to an A380, and remains the sole A380 operator at Amsterdam.

Besides serving Singapore, SIA is a major player to points in southeast Asia, especially Indonesia, and Australasia. Both are important destinations for Dutch travellers.
