Etihad Airways has launched a programme aimed at improving sleep quality for long-haul passengers.
Following more than a year of collaborative research with a panel of sleep experts from the American Centre for Psychiatry and Neurology, the airline has developed several new products and introduced new initiatives to help passengers sleep better onboard.
One of the major components of the airline’s sleep programme is the introduction of natural bedding from Athens-based Coco-Mat, a manufacturer of sustainably sourced sleep products. The brand’s multi-layered sleep mattress is now available throughout Etihad’s Diamond first class suites.
Made from extracts of the Hevea tree, the mattress offers a healthier alternative to standard petroleum-based foams. Renowned for its elasticity, the material is perforated with tiny holes, which enables the mattress to breathe and regulate body temperature. The new bedding set, also from Coco-Mat, features a 100 per cent cotton sheet and down feather duvet and pillow.
Diamond First amenity kits, meanwhile, now include sleep-friendly products such as fine cotton Heath Grey sleep suits, pillow mist, pulse point oil and a selection of Bergamote 22 toiletries by New York beauty brand, Le Labo. Pearl Business amenity kits contain natural beauty products from Greek Beauty brand Korres.
On Pearl business and Coral economy class, comforters, blankets and pillows are provided.
To promote sleep, bedtime beverages such as hot chocolate and herbal teas will also be offered to passengers travelling in all three classes.
Standard offerings for all passengers include noise cancellation headphones, which help minimise the effects of ambient cabin sounds. Mood-lighting systems are additionally available onboard all of the carrier’s aircraft.
