Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide is anticipating record-breaking growth for its Sheraton brand over the next 12 months in Asia-Pacific, with 23 out of its 35 new properties to debut in the region.
After opening its 100th hotel in the region last year (see here), Sheraton continues to assert its dominance in the region by adding a further 23 properties to its Asia-Pacific portfolio. This represents a new hotel opening once every three weeks in China alone, and demonstrates the group’s highly aggressive growth plans for the country.
Sheraton is specifically targeting China’s secondary and tertiary cities due to their high growth potential, with launches in Wuhan, Shaoxing, Zhengzhou and Qingdao. It will also add a third hotel in Beijing and a fifth property in Shanghai. More than 13 additional Sheraton hotels are slated to open in China by 2017.
In other areas within the region, the group will add three additional hotels to its India portfolio by 2015, with hotels planned for Bengaluru, Noida (near New Delhi) and Chandigarh.
Starwood’s Sheraton brand will also soon enter several other new markets in Asia-Pacific including New Caledonia, Samoa and Sri Lanka.
