Onyx Hospitality Group to expand into new markets

Thailand-based hotel management company Onyx Hospitality Group has announced a series of hotel openings in emerging markets such as Bangladesh, China and Sri Lanka. The group, which currently operates 35 properties worldwide, has ambitious plans to increase its product offerings across its Amari, OZO and Shama brands.

“We are excited about celebrating this milestone year as we gear up to surpass our 40th hotel opening. With the recent openings of Grand Pujian Residence in Shanghai, China and Amari Buriram United in the north-east of Thailand, together with an additional six properties scheduled to open in 2014, our strong growth demonstrates our commitment to achieving our 2018 target to become one of Asia’s leading hospitality groups,” said Peter Henley, president and CEO of Onyx.

The new properties are:

Amari Dhaka Bangladesh – Opening 2014

Scheduled to open in late 2014, this 134-room property will be located 5km from Dhaka International Airport in the business district of Gulshan.

OZO Chaweng Samui – Opening March 2014

The hotel will offer 208 guestrooms, and is situated along a stretch of beach. It will feature a swimming pool, two restaurants, as well as a beach bar.

OZO Colombo – Opening Q2, 2014

With views of the Indian Ocean, OZO Colombo is within walking distance to Galle Road, and a 10-minute drive to the city centre. It will feature 158 guestrooms, and include meetings and function space, a restaurant, and a rooftop bar and lounge.

OZO Pattaya – Opening Q2, 2014

This property will offer 170 guestrooms, and include a swimming pool, restaurant, fitness centre, and a ‘grab and go’ snack bar. It is located within the city centre, and thus within close reach of the many attractions Pattaya has to offer.

OZO Kandy Sri Lanka – Opening 2014

The hotel will feature 128 rooms, and include a swimming pool, gym and two restaurants. 

Shama Heda Hangzhou – Opening Q1, 2014

As Onyx’s serviced apartment brand, this will be the group’s first residence property in Hanzhou, China.
