Fellow members of the Oneworld Alliance, Cathay Pacific (CX) and Qatar Airways (QR), have entered into a strategic agreement on services operated by both airlines between Hong Kong and Doha from 30 March.
Both carriers will operate one flight each between the two destinations daily, enabling passengers to enjoy more opportunities to earn and redeem frequent flyer points or miles on the airlines’ respective loyalty programmes – Marco Polo Club for CX and Privilege Club for QR.
In addition, top-tier members travelling between Hong Kong and Doha will be entitled to reciprocal benefits that are exclusively for the HongKong-Doha route. Business class lounge access for instance will be extended to silver tier members of the Marco Polo Club/Privilege Club regardless of class of travel. In addition, gold tier members will get an extra 15kg of checked baggage allowance, while silver tier members will enjoy an extra 10kg. This is on top of the free checked baggage allowance of 40/35/30kg for business, premium economy and economy class members. Finally, silver tier members of both programmes will also enjoy priority boarding and bag handling.
According to CX chief executive John Slosar, the partnership demonstrates the airline’s commitment to serving the Middle East, which has become a popular connecting hub for passengers travelling on to other destinations.
“This exciting business opportunity will help us maximise the potential of the market between Qatar and Hong Kong and enable both airlines to create synergies that will improve the overall travel experience for our customers,” said Slosar.
Cathay Pacific will operate a three-class (business, premium economy, economy) Airbus A330-300 on its daily service to the city.
