New terminal at Mumbai Airport begins operations

The new integrated Terminal 2 in Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) has officially opened its doors and commenced all international operations.

According to CSIA, the transition of all international flights from the existing terminal to the new terminal began with the arrival of Air India flight AI343 from Singapore, which landed at 1300 local time.

Meanwhile, Jet Airways was the first carrier to launch its service from Terminal 2 when flight 9W118 departed for London, Heathrow at 1320. Check-in counters opened at 0920 for passengers travelling on the flight, and special baggage tags with the phrase “First to experience T2” were distributed.

In addition, Air India flight AI343 landed at Terminal 2 to a water gun salute followed by a traditional Indian welcome to all passengers. Immigration, customs and CISF teams also participated in the ceremony to ensure that all passengers were processed in a timely and efficient manner.

So what happens to the old terminal? CSIA has officially shut down all operations as of today at 1400.
