European luxury hotel company Kempinski is set to open its largest property in China this May. Located on grounds measuring 14 sq km, the development is located at the heart of the Yanqi Lake, roughly 45 km north of Beijing Capital International Airport, and 60 km north of the city centre.
A unique feature of the new development is that it will not be housed within a single structure. Rather, the entire Kempinski facility will be split into a number of different locations, all within the area of the Yanqi Lake.
The main development – Yanqi Lake Kempinski Hotel Beijing – is the central structure, and offers 306 guestrooms and suites. It features nine restaurants and bars, meeting facilities, spa and recreational facilities, a fitness centre with an indoor swimming pool, as well as outdoor activities including a golf course and mountain biking range.

Meanwhile the Yanqi Lake State Guest House is Kempinski’s newest resort in the area. Located on a private island with a marina, the property’s design is inspired by the surrounding landscape, and built with a combination of natural elements such as varnished wood. It will offer 111 guestrooms and suites ranging from 54 to 252 sqm. There is an indoor pool, five F&B outlets, as well as a ballroom and meeting rooms.

Also on the island that houses the Yanqi Lake State Guest House are 12 smaller Kempinski boutique hotels. With a total of 178 guestrooms and suites, the boutique hotels range between 6,000 to 9,000 sqm each, and offer between 10 to 19 guestrooms. The interior designs are influenced by the décor found in the Chinese imperial gardens of Beijing and Siheyuan traditional courtyard style housing.
Each individual boutique hotel offers an indoor swimming pool, fully equipped gym, games room, library, meeting room and spa treatment rooms. There is also a private dining room on site.
