Intercontinental Hotels Group is opening its first Crowne Plaza property in Barcelona.
The Crowne Plaza Barcelona Fira Center will be less than 100 metres away from the Fira Barcelona Convention Center next to Plaza Espana Square. It is scheduled to open during the first quarter of this year.
The 276-guestroom property will feature 3,000 sqm of meeting space and will have the largest conference and meeting facilities of any Crowne Plaza hotel in Europe.
Other facilities will include a "Wellness Centre", a gym and a VIP club lounge.
Hylko Versteeg, IHG's development director for Spain and Portugal, said: "Barcelona is a key city for us in Europe and our Crowne Plaza brand is absolutely the right fit for this area.
"The property's fantastic facilities and central location will provide the hotel with a competitive advantage."
IHG currently operates 82 Crowne Plaza hotels in Europe with a further 12 due to open in the next three to five years.
The group recently opened a property in the Swiss city of Davos, home to the annual World Economic Forum (see news, January 14).
