Lufthansa to simplify schedules on three routes

17 Jan 2014 by Alex McWhirter

It's no secret that Europe's national airlines mainly fly locally in order to feed their hubs with short and long-haul passengers.

Therefore, they must offer convenience, reliability and efficient back-up or risk losing passengers to both low-cost carriers and indirect rivals.

To this end, Germany's Lufthansa will simplify its schedules on three key routes out of Frankfurt from March 30.

The "shuttle" routes in question are Frankfurt to London Heathrow, Brussels and Vienna.

In the case of LHR to Frankfurt, Lufthansa flights will depart at 30 minutes past the hour with Frankfurt-London flights timed to depart on the hour itself. All told, there will be 12 daily flights.

For Brussels to Frankfurt, the ten daily services will depart at five minutes past the hour, returning from Frankfurt at 25 minutes past the hour.

And the 12 Vienna to Frankfurt flights will leave at ten minutes past the hour, returning from Frankfurt at 50 minutes past the hour.

Flight frequency has been stepped up and schedules operate every hour, except for one of two gaps in the off-peak.

In short, Lufthansa and its partners will now have easy-to-remember scheduling on three of its main feeder routes to and from Frankfurt.

And should a connection be missed, for whatever reason, passengers will know they should not have to wait too long to be rebooked on the next flight.

It is believed to be the first time that any European carrier has simplified international timings in this way in recent years.
