Air France KLM introduces paid lounge access in Bangkok

13 Jan 2014 by Clement Huang

Air France KLM has announced that its is launching paid lounge access at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to all Skyteam economy class passengers.

By buying a one-day lounge pass for 1,000 baht (US$30) at the check-in area (near counter aisle "P"), travellers can gain entry into the Air France KLM lounge.

Located on level three of the departure hall area, the lounge has a capacity for 140 people, and offers complimentary hot and cold dishes, along with wine and champagne options. Complimentary wifi is offered throughout the facility, and there is a selection of local and international newspapers and magazines available. The lounge, open round the clock, also features a business corner and shower facilities.

While the use of the lounge will cost adult passengers from the back-end 1,000 baht, accompanying children under the age of 17 only pay 750 baht (US$23) each and toddlers under the care of the paying adult enter for free.

Gold- and platinum-tier members of the airline’s Flying Blue loyalty programme will continue to enjoy complimentary access to the lounge, as well as the right to bring along one travel companion for free.

Considering the major difference in price between economy and business class tickets, Air France KLM’s decision to offer this pay-in lounge concept for a rather low fee is likely to cause some discontent among premium passengers and high-tier loyalty members.

Other airlines such as ANA and SAS also offer pay-in lounge access, but with Air France KLM opening up its Bangkok lounge to all economy passengers alliance-wide, this represents a bold move for the carrier.
