South Korean carriers have released a newly updated list of restricted items on their websites to reflect recent changes to Article 44 of South Korea’s Aviation Safety and Security Act.
Previously prohibited items, such as drawing compasses and needles may now be carried onboard an aircraft. Other sharp objects, such as throwing stars and folding knives, may be checked in. Certain firearms, including stun guns, may also be loaded onboard. However these items must be packed into locked hard-sided containers, and declared to the airline during check in.
The revised list is only applicable for passengers flying from and to airports under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Korea.
Passengers travelling to destinations outside South Korea are advised to check prohibited items list with their respective airlines and travel agencies prior to departure.
