Air Canada to deploy B787 to Tokyo

6 Dec 2013 by GrahamSmith

Air Canada will launch a daily Boeing 787 service between Toronto and Tokyo next July.

The year-round route will be the only non-stop flight between Canada and Tokyo-Haneda and the first daytime flight to Tokyo-Haneda from North America.

Starting on July 1, it will be Air Canada's first full Dreamliner service, although the airline will debut the B787 on its Toronto to London Heathrow and Zurich routes from May 1 for a two-month period.

Outward flight AC005 will leave Toronto-Pearson at 1300 and land in Tokyo at 1455 the following day. Return service AC006 will depart Tokyo at 1740 and arrive in Toronto at 1640.

Passengers can book tickets on the route from December 10.

Ben Smith, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Air Canada, said: "Air Canada is very pleased to offer customers, especially business travellers to Japan, the option of flying to Tokyo-Haneda airport aboard our new 787 Dreamliner.

"Located less than 30 minutes by monorail from Tokyo's central business district, Tokyo-Haneda is Japan's busiest airport and is popular with travellers going into the city.

"Moreover, with North America's only daytime flight to Tokyo-Haneda, the schedule is convenient for those who want to maximise productivity during their trip. It will also further strengthen our

Toronto global hub, whose easy connection processes and shorter elapsed flying times make it ideal for travelers to and from the US north-east."

He added: "To provide customers choice, Air Canada will continue to offer service from Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver to Narita airport."

Air Canada this week unveiled the cabin design and seating that will feature on its B787 Dreamliner fleet (see news, December 5).

It will also operate a Dreamliner on its Toronto to Tel Aviv route from July.
