Starwood Hotels & Resorts has announced that its Sheraton brand has reached the 100th property milestone in Asia-Pacific with the opening of a new hotel in Shantou, China.
Sheraton Shantou Hotel is one of nearly 30 new Sheratons opened in the region this year, including Sheraton Shenyang South China Hotel and Sheraton Hua Hin Pranburi Villas.
According to Starwood, there are over 50 new Sheraton properties in the development pipeline in Asia-Pacific, with the brand looking to open its 500th such hotel worldwide by 2016.
Already established in China’s major cities, Sheraton is focused on expanding its footprint into second- and third-tier cities. The opening of Sheraton Shantou Hotel is an example of this. The city is located on the eastern coast of Guangdong province, and is home to a population of over 5 million people. It is a strategic seaport and one of China’s five special economic zones.
The hotel features 306 guestrooms, as well as 24 suites with views of the South China Sea. Rooms are equipped with the brand’s signature amenities, including the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper bed, rainforest shower, high-speed internet connectivity and LCD television.
Located at the lobby is a space with complimentary wireless broadband and computer terminals. Other facilities include a fitness centre, an outdoor swimming pool, and a spa. Sheraton Shantou Hotel also offers three different dining venues, a club lounge for executive floor guests, and over 1,800 sqm of event space. The hotel also has paperless check-in and check-out.
To celebrate the opening of the new hotel, the property is offering a special package starting at RMB598 (US$98) for a one-night stay in a superior room. Breakfast and complimentary internet access is also included. The deal runs until January 30, 2014.
