Jetstar Asia introduces new self check-in service

7 Nov 2013 by Clement Huang

Jetstar Asia has introduced a brand new check-in service that it believes will redefine the travel experience of its customers.

Dubbed “Straight to Gate”, the service is designed to eliminate queues and improve the overall check-in experience.

Trials for the new service have commenced at Jetstar Asia’s hub in Singapore Changi Airport. Customers on selected routes that have no check-in baggage nor visa requirements can now bypass check-in counters, and proceed directly into the transit area. These customers can check-in online, print their boarding passes from home, and proceed straight to immigration before heading to the departure gate.

However, passengers with checked baggage or those who do require visa verification are still required to follow the traditional way of visiting check-in counters to get their boarding passes endorsed.

Due to the tight labour market that Singapore faces, Changi Airport has endorsed the move. “We congratulate Jetstar Asia on the launch of its ‘Straight to Gate’ initiative,” said Tan Lye Teck, executive vice president for airport management, Changi Airport Group. “This is in line with Changi Airport’s objective of promoting a seamless and stress-free travel experience for our passengers.” The airport group will in turn be introducing self-service check-in kiosks in the upcoming Terminal 4 (see here), opening in 2017.
