Qatar Airways has added Sharjah and Dubai World Central (DWC) as its newest routes in the United Arab Emirates.
Beginning March 1 next year, the airline will operate twice daily flights to each destination.
Sharjah is the third largest and third most populous city within the UAE. A well-known centre for culture and industry, the city is a significant contributor to the Arab country’s GDP.
Dubbed "a master-planned aerotropolis" by the country's government, DWC is a giant economic zone that is currently under construction. Approximately twice the size of Hong Kong island, it leverages on the Emirates’ position as a global trade, business and aviation hub.
The development will feature a new airport that covers 55,000 acres (220 sq km). Phase one of AL Maktoum International Airport has been completed and is now fully operational. Phase two, along with the rest of the DWC development, is expected to be complete in 2027.
Serviced by the Airbus A320, the route expansion will enable customers from Europe, Africa and the Americas to experience increased availability of flights to the UAE, while passengers from Australia, Asia and the Indian subcontinent will enjoy better connection times when transiting via Doha.
