Cathay Pacific Airways (CX) has revealed that it will be expanding its services to the US. The Hong Kong carrier will add a fourth daily flight to Los Angeles and three additional direct operations to Chicago.
Pending government approval, CX will launch its new service to Los Angeles from 1 June 2014, and Chicago from 2 August 2014, bringing the number of flights to the Windy City to 10 a week.
Both Los Angeles and Chicago represent important gateway cities in the US, and CX has been seeing consistently strong demand from both business and leisure travellers on both routes. For the Business Traveller Asia-Pacific report on CX’s latest operations report, please see here.
The newly added flight to Los Angeles will depart Hong Kong in the morning, and arrive at LAX in the morning the following day.
“Adding a morning departure from Hong Kong to Los Angeles will give passengers the option of a morning arrival into the city, with a range of connections to other cities in the US” said CX chief executive John Slosar.
Meanwhile, the three additional services to Chicago will depart Hong Kong on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. By operating evening flights, Slosar believes that this will provide “better connections for travellers arriving from cities around the region.”
The fourth Los Angeles service will be operated by the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, and feature a four-class configuration. It will offer 6 seats in first class, 53 in business, 34 in premium economy and 182 in economy.
New flights to Chicago will also be serviced by the 777-300ER aircraft, but will instead feature a three-class configuration with 40 business class seats, 32 premium economy seats, and 268 economy seats.
These additional North American flights come on top of CX’s recent announcement that it will soon launch a daily service to Newark, starting March 2014 (see here). This will complement the airline’s current four-times daily service to JFK airport in New York.
