China Southern has finished upgrading one of its four B777-200s, and put it in operation on the Shanghai – Urumqi route from September 26 onwards.
The airline has been using these four aircraft since 1997, so it made a decision that it was time to renew the cabin interiors. The refreshed plane features new China-made seat offerings.
Giving passenger more space was on top of the agenda. The number of first class seats have been reduced from 18 to 14, while premium economy has 30 seats instead of 40. The refitting has allowed a larger seat pitch for economy even though the number of seats at the backend remains the same. The aircraft's total capacity has been adjusted from 374 to 360.
First class
First class seat can recline to a fully flat bed of 2.1 metres long and 0.5 metre wide. Each is installed with individual remote control for changing seat and footrest positions, as well as an air-pumped back cushion. Both first and premium economy are equipped with in-flight power outlets for smartphones and laptops.
Economy class
The refurbishment of the remaining three B777-200s will be complete before the coming Chinese New Year at the end of January next year, and Guangzhou – Urumqi and Beijing – Urumqi will be two of the routes serviced by them.
