Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) has introduced an app for the iPad, as well as a new design for Apple’s new mobile operating system iOS 7.
While SPG has an existing app for iOS mobile users, it was designed solely for the iPhone. By having an optimised version for the iPad, the new design is able to take full advantage of the tablet’s larger screen.
The iPad app showcases high-resolution photography of Starwood’s properties and destinations. It comes with a new interface that is focused on promoting ease of use and speed. This results in a more intuitive navigation system that directly integrates the iPad to the SPG platform.
A key feature of the app is SPG life, which is a section where members can access up-to-date account information including point balance, upcoming stay information and other benefits.
Chris Holdren, senior vice president of Starwood Preferred Guest & Digital explained the rationale behind the development of the app by commenting on the growing trend that has seen today’s travellers using mobile devices to search for and explore destinations, as well as book rooms and other travel services.
SPG also recently released a Chinese app for Android (see here).
