12 Sep 2013 by GrahamSmith
United Airlines will fly a summer seasonal service between Edinburgh and Chicago next year, opening up North America to Scottish passengers. The route, which is subject to government approval, will connect Edinburgh directly with United's hub at O'Hare International Airport. Operated by a Boeing 757-200, it is scheduled to begin as a five-weekly service on May 22. On June 12, it will switch to a daily service and then on September 2 it will run four times a week until it closes on October 5. The aircraft will have 169 seats – 16 flat-bed in United Business First and 153 in United Economy, including 45 Economy Plus seats with added legroom and increased personal space. Brian Znotins, United's vice president of network, said: "We're pleased to add Chicago-to-Edinburgh non-stop service to United's extensive transatlantic route network. "In addition to providing a direct link between the two cities, the new flights are conveniently timed to provide connections in Chicago to and from more than 125 destinations across North, Central and South America and the Caribbean." The flights will depart Chicago at 1800, arriving in Edinburgh at 0745 the following day. The return service will depart Edinburgh at 1025, arriving in Chicago at 1300 the same day. unitedairlines.com Graham Smith
