Qantas is extending its Select on Q-Eat to premium economy passengers on select international flights, including all services between Australia, London and Dubai.
The pre-order meal service was launched last year as exclusive to business class and has been progressively rolled out on more flights.
It offers customers a more varied menu and the facility to pre-order meals online between seven days and 12 hours prior to departure.
Qantas has now announced it will be extending Select on Q-Eat to premium economy on certain international flights over the next few weeks.
First up are premium economy passengers on any flight between Dallas and Australia that departs after September 16. These passengers can book their meals online from today.
From 16 September (for flights departing September 23), the service will be extended to premium economy on all flights between Los Angeles and Australia.
And from October, Select on Q-Eat will be available for all premium economy passengers on all flights between Australia, London and Dubai.
Qantas then plans to extend it to customers travelling internationally in economy from late 2013.
Alison Webster, a Qantas executive manager, said: "Our aim is to provide our customers with a personalised experience when they fly with us. The Select on Q-Eat offering in Business has been very well-received since its introduction last year.
"Our customers tell us they enjoy the ability to confirm their meal choice prior to their flight, or to advise us in advance that their priority is to maximise their rest on board, and have their bed made up by our Cabin Crew directly after take off."
Last month, Qantas and Qantas Link previewed the new interiors that will feature on their Airbus A330 fleet and select Boeing 717 aircraft (see news, August 29).
