Regent Hotels & Resorts have signed a global strategic agreement with China’s Union Pay. All Regent properties in Asia and Europe now accept Union Pay cards, with Regent Palms Turks & Caicos scheduled to have the same capabilities in 12 months.
Holders of Union Pay Platinum or Diamond cards will also be able to enjoy special benefits at Regent hotels, such as room, spa and F&B discounts, room upgrades, free buffet breakfast for two and VIP treatment.
The agreement allows the brand to gain easier access to the thriving Chinese market, as Union Pay is the only domestic bank card organisation in China and serves the world’s largest number of cardholders.
“As both brands have originated in Asia, the advantageous collaboration between Regent Hotels and Resorts and Union Pay will receive unprecedented attention and prospects. The seven Regent Hotels in operation will join forces with the company which has issued 3.6 billion cards to date in 30 plus countries which are accepted in over 140,” said Regent chief executive officer, Amy Hsueh.
This news follows a similar announcement in June by Mandarin Oriental (see here), which signed a global partnership agreement with Union Pay International, allowing customers to use their Union Pay credit card in select properties.
