Cathay Pacific to launch daily HKG to Newark route

13 Aug 2013 by GrahamSmith

Cathay Pacific is launching a daily route between Hong Kong and New York Newark next year.

The service, which is subject to regulatory approval, is scheduled to begin in March and will be operated by a three-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

From March 1, flight CX890 will leave Hong Kong at 1700 each day, arriving in Newark at 2100 local time. Return flight CX899 will leave Newark at an inconvenient 0150 and arrive in Hong Kong the next day at 0540.

The new service will complement Cathay Pacific's current four-times-daily service to New York JFK.

Tom Owen, the airline's senior vice president, Americas, said: "The introduction of Cathay Pacific's Newark to Hong Kong service demonstrates our commitment to the New York Metropolitan area, which has been instrumental in the development of our North American operations.

"We are dedicated to offering even more choice and flexibility for Tri-state residents, and we constantly raise the bar on our passengers' experience through impeccable service, superior in-flight amenities and products."

Newark will become Cathay Pacific's fifth gateway into the US, and seventh in North America. The airline currently serves Chicago, Los Angeles, New York (JFK), San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver.

Last month, Cathay Pacific unveiled some changes to its five-year old First product, with a refreshed seat and new amenities (see online news, July 26).
