Qatar Airways offering Iftar boxes during Ramadan

11 Jul 2013

Qatar Airways has begun offering Iftar boxes to passengers who are fasting during the month of Ramadan, which become available onboard at the time of fast breaking.

In addition to water, laban, dates and Arabic sweets, the specially designed boxes will contain both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options: a saaj bread wrap with char-grilled red pepper and courgette, crumbled feta cheese and spiced hummus for vegetarians, and roasted chicken, peeled cucumber strips, zaatar seasoning and lemon and tahini dressing in a saaj bread wrap for the meat-eaters.

Both box types will also include crudities of carrot and cucumber batons with hummus, black olives and parsley; olive-pickled-vegetables; and olive oil with Arabic bread. A packet of the airline’s signature mixed fruits and nuts is also included, together with a banana.

“Qatar Airways welcomes the tradition of the country whose people we represent. Ramadan is an important period for a vast number of our passengers and we are happy to meet their needs, offering them the high level of service they have been accustomed to,” said Akbar Al Baker, chief executive officer of the airline.

The boxes are distributed on flights from Doha to select destinations including Abu Dhabi, Alexandria, Algiers, Amman, Baghdad, Bahrain, Cairo, Dubai, Erbil, Istanbul, Jeddah, Khartoum, Kuwait, Madinah, Mashhad, Muscat, Najaf, Riyadh, Sanaa and Tehran. Passengers on both business and economy class are entitled to the box if they decline regular meals. The box is delivered by cabin crew to the passengers at fast breaking time, without the passenger having to place an order beforehand.

The airline also announced the launch dates of upcoming new routes, including: Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, August 20; Chengdu, China, September 3; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, September 18 (see news here); Clark International Airport, Philippines, October 27; and Philadelphia on April 2 next year.
