Maybourne Hotel Group to accept Union Pay credit card

10 Jul 2013 by Clement Huang

The Maybourne Hotel Group – which owns and manages Claridge’s, the Connaught and the Berkeley in London – has announced a series of initiatives that underlines the company’s commitment to building its brand within China’s travel sector.

In line with this, the group has signed an agreement with China’s major domestic bankcard Union Pay, which the group hopes will facilitate easier credit payment transactions from the Mainland. Other major hotel groups, including Mandarin Oriental (see here) and The Corinithia Hotel London (see here) also recently made this move.

The group has also launched its first Chinese-language, hotel-specific websites, along with a toll-free Chinese phone number.

In addition, Maybourne will be collaborating with two Asian designers in its latest projects at the Berkeley in Knightsbridge. Hong Kong-based interior designer Andre Fu has been tasked to create a suite on the fourth floor of the hotel. The opening is due in July. Meanwhile, Hong Kong-born, London-based interior architect Spencer Fu will head the design effort behind the re-launch of the hotel's health club and spa.
