Shangri-La to open hotel in Shenyang

27 Jun 2013

Shangri-La Hotels has announced August 1 as the opening date of its new five-star Shangri-La property in Shenyang, China. It will be the second property of the hotel group in the city, with the other one being four-star Traders Hotel.

The hotel is situated at Qingnian Avenue in Shenhe District, which is within walking distance to the city's prime shopping and entertainment area including the Shenyang City Crossing MIXC shopping mall. Wulihe Street, a strip filled with Chinese restaurants, can also be reached in around 15 minutes. Famous attraction Liaoning Radio and TV Tower is located at northwest of the hotel, only a 15 minutes' walk away. The airport is 30 minutes' drive away and the city's two major train stations, which connect Shenyang to key cities by express trains, are two minutes away.

The lobby is designed to feel like the backyard of the imperial palace, filled with roses. It also features a 10-metre-high ceiling supported by marble-clad columns depicting wind and cloud motifs in traditional Chinese style. Behind the reception desk stands a copy of a Song Dynasty painting found in the Shenyang Museum.

The new property will offer 395 guestrooms and 29 suites starting from 42 sqm. Decorated with Chinese accents, the rooms offer panoramic city views and are outfitted with Shangri-La's signature amenities, including complimentary high-speed broadband Internet and wifi. Restaurant outlets include Shinsen, featuring a sushi and sake bar; and Café Liao, serving an extensive selection of Asian and international cuisines using both local and imported produce. A variety of ballrooms and function rooms, ranging from 600 sqm to 4,026 sqm will also be available.

Shenyang is located approximately 500 miles north of Beijing, about an hour by flight. It is also the largest political, economic, cultural and transportation centre in Northeast China. It is well developed in heavy industries, particularly aerospace, machine tools and heavy equipment, but there are also growing software, automotive and electronics sectors.

The Shangri-La Chongqing is another property which will be open in autumn this year (see story here).
