Eva Air officially becomes Star Alliance member

19 Jun 2013

Taiwan-based Eva Air has officially joined Star Alliance after having “successfully completed all joining requirements,” stated Mark Schwab, chief executive of Star Alliance at the carrier’s official joining ceremony.

As reported earlier (see story here), the membership provides Eva Air’s passengers with seamless access to more than 1,300 destinations around the world. It also enables the carrier’s Infinity MileageLands members greater mileage accrual and redemtption opportunities when flying with other member carriers and vice versa as well as access to a wide array of lounges across the globe for upper-tier members. In order to ensure seamless travel within the network, the carrier now also offers through check-in to a passenger’s final destination for Star Alliance-operated connecting flights.

While boosting Eva Air’s international reach, the carrier’s membership also strengthens Star Alliance’s presence in the booming Cross-Straits market, which has grown from an annual passenger volume of 3 million in 2009 to 9 million passengers in 2012 – a surge that has been riding on the backs of increasingly improved relations between Taiwan and China.
