French air traffic strike cut by 24 hours

12 Jun 2013 by GrahamSmith

Air traffic controllers in France have shortened their strike by 24 hours.

The industrial action, which has wreaked havoc for passengers flying to and from France, started at 0600 on Tuesday and was due to have continued for three days until 0559 on Friday (see online news, June 10).

It will now finish a day earlier at 0559 on Thursday.

Budget carrier Ryanair said in a statement: "We have been advised by French authorities that the strike action on the Thursday June 13 has been cancelled and all flights will operate as scheduled."

However, airlines have warned that flights will continue to be affected by the strike.

DGAC, the French civil aviation authority, has requested carriers reduce their schedules by 50 per cent at Paris, Lyon, Nice, Marseille, Toulouse and Bordeaux.

An Easyjet spokesman said: "Easyjet and all other airlines operating to and from France have been advised to expect only 50 per cent of normal services, which means we [are having] to cancel approximately 128 flights each day."

Air traffic unions are protesting against European Union plans to change civil aviation rules.
