Air India to fly B787 to Hong Kong, Seoul and Osaka

11 Jun 2013 by GrahamSmith

Air India will start using Dreamliners on routes from Delhi to Hong Kong, Seoul and Osaka later this month.

On June 25, an Air India B787 will begin operating the Delhi–Hong Kong–Seoul route, and from June 26 the model will also be used for the Delhi–Hong Kong–Osaka service.

The carrier flies Delhi to Seoul via Hong Kong four times a week – on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The service departs the Indian city at 2315, arriving in Hong Kong at 0650+1, leaving again at 0805 for a 1230 touch down in Korea. The return leg takes off at 1415, landing in Hong Kong at 1650, departing again at 1805 and arriving back in India at 2110.

The Delhi to Osaka via Hong Kong service, meanwhile, departs three times a week – on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday – with the exact same timings, except arrival time in Osaka is at 1240+1. The return leg leaves at 1410, but otherwise follows the same schedule as the Seoul route.

A spokesperson for Air India said that using a Dreamliner on this route instead of the 777 will benefit passengers, since the 787 cabin is more spacious and has mood lighting as well as larger, dimmable windows. The 787 is also lighter and consumes less fuel.

The Air India Dreamliner consists of 18 fully flat business seats, configured 2-2-2, as well as 238 economy seats configured 3-3-3. It currently flies to London, Paris, Frankfurt, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai.

Dreamliner operations worldwide have remained unaffected by the minor incident that occurred onboard a JAL B787 earlier this month (see online news, June 3).
