China Airlines launches first "Love & Hug" themed B747-400

7 Jun 2013

China Airlines has debuted its first “Love & Hug” B747-400 jet, which carries cartoon patterns on its livery, the cabin interior and even the new cabin crew uniform's aprons.

The first "Love & Hug" flight will take off this afternoon, adorned with a motif featuring children embracing planet Earth and endangered animals such as the white dolphin, rhinoceros, owl, polar bear, penguin and sea turtle. This, according to the airline, reflects its commitment to protecting the environment.

In the cabin, cushions and headrest covers are decorated with the characters. Flight attendants also serve passengers wearing aprons with a white dolphin and polar bear patterns. Furthermore, passengers will receive souvenirs including a special edition picture book, playing cards and t-shirts. Business class passengers, meanwhile, will be given specially designed travel bags.

The aircraft has 70 business and 319 economy class seats, and will serve US, Japan, Southeast Asia and China routes.

Cartooning your carrier seems to have become a bit of a trend of late, with another Taiwanese airline, EVA Air, having debuted a Hello Kitty-themed aircraft last year (see story here).
