Travelodge has opened its fifth Spanish hotel in Barcelona.
The 250-room property, Travelodge's largest in the country, is located in the city's 22@ central business district, which is also known as Districte de la innovació.
Barcelona Poblenou Travelodge is the first of two new Spanish hotel openings for the budget hotelier this year.
The second hotel will be located in the Julian Camarilo commercial district in Madrid and is scheduled to open this summer.
The new properties will bring the total number of Travelodge hotels in Spain to six - three in Madrid, two in Barcelona and one in Valencia.
Paul Harvey, Travelodge's managing director, said: “The demand for branded budget accommodation is rapidly growing across Spain.
"Like the UK market the recession has forced many Spanish businesses and financial institutions to make cutbacks. As a result, we have seen a significant rise in corporate business come through our doors."
On Friday, Travelodge is opening its seventh hotel in Liverpool. The 125-room Liverpool Exchange Street Travelodge, previously the Sun Alliance insurance building, is a Grade II listed property.
Earlier this week, Travelodge confirmed it is expanding into the conference and meeting room marketplace later this year by introducing bespoke meeting rooms in 60 of its properties across the UK (see online news, May 7).
