Guangzhou is set to become the third Chinese city to allow visa-free transits for foreign travellers.
The policy will allow visitors holding third-country visas and onward plane tickets from Baiyun airport to stay in Guangzhou for up to 72 hours without the need of a visa, reported by Chinese Xinhua News Agency. According to Zou Yingping, public relations assistant at China Southern Airlines, an application has been submitted and is pending the customs authority’s approval. The policy is likely to be implemented within the year.
Since the beginning of this year, Beijing (see story here) and Shanghai have introduced the policy at Capital airport, and Hongqiao and Pudong airports, benefiting passport holders of 45 countries. According to Xinhua, more than 1,000 foreign passengers have taken advantage of the policy at Shanghai’s two airports since it has been introduced.
