Travel to space thanks to KLM

17 Apr 2013 by ScottCarey7

KLM has launched a unique competition with the prize of a flight into space with Space Expedition Corporation (SXC), a project that aims to launch its first commercial space trip from Curacao on January 1, 2014.

On April 22 KLM will launch a high altitude balloon fitted with cameras and GPS equipment from the Nevada desert, USA. The balloon will eventually expand and pop as it reaches the outer atmosphere, with the technical equipment floating back to earth on a parachute.

Participants must predict the balloon’s highest point online, with the most accurate prediction winning a flight for two to the Caribbean island of Curacao, with a hotel stay, before taking a spaceflight for one aboard the SXC Lynx spaceship (face value of US $95,000). Final entry is at midnight Central European Time (CET) on April 22.

The winner will be launched 103km up to space and see earth from a unique perspective, as well as experiencing total weightlessness.
