Newly opened Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Island is providing guests instant access to all things Hong Kong through its “Handy” service.

From now until June 10, upon check in guests will be offered a 3G-enabled gadget that can make local and international calls and contains a complete city guide, including a helpful “best of list” for shopping, dining and nightlife. It also contains Google Maps, Skype, transport guides, a currency converter and social media essentials such as Facebook, Twitter, Weibo, Wechat and Instagram.

“We all depend on being connected whilst travelling and the Handy devices will allow our guests access to everything they need without fear of huge roaming bills or missing out on the best local information,” said hotel general manager Bryan Gabriel. He added it was equally important for visitors to experience authentic Hong Kong as well as the Wan Chai neighbourhood where Hotel Indigo is located.

At the time of booking, guests can make known they wish to receive a Handy and will get a Hong Kong telephone number to disseminate before they depart for the city.

Handy is a pioneer product of Tink Labs, a Hong Kong-based technology incubator of mobile travel solutions. International calls from Hong Kong can be placed to 17 countries and from Singapore to 25 countries. Discounts and deals with local merchant partners are also available.

A fee of HK$68 (US$8.78) a day will be charged for the service after the June 10 promotion period.

Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Island launched its first phase of opening April 10 with 60 rooms. A 20 per cent discount on room rates can be had until June 30.
