Dorsett Hospitality signs partnership with Diamond Resorts

Dorsett Hospitality International has signed a partnership agreement with US hospitality group Diamond Resorts International.  The Hong Kong-based hospitality company has joined up with a US counterpart with a network of more than 260 vacation destinations located in 28 countries, principally in the continental United States as well as Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, South America and Central America.

Dorsett is of the largest hotel developers, owners and operators in Asia focusing on the 3- to 4-star segments and has a portfolio of 25 hotels in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and China as well as the UK. It is expected to increase its room inventory by approximately 80 per cent by 2016, giving a total inventory of approximately 7300. 

At the signing ceremony held in Hong Kong, Ms. Winnie Chiu, President and Executive Director of Dorsett Hospitality International said: “Through this affiliation, Dorsett Hospitality International will be able to strengthen and expand its brand presence at a faster pace as well as to increase the arrivals of US and Europe travellers into Hong Kong, by tapping into Diamond Resorts International’s existing network of nearly 1.4 million owners, members and guests.”

Speaking with Philip Schaetz, Dorsett International senior vice-president of sales and marketing, it is clear that the aim is for Dorsett’s previously diverse brands to organise themselves to become more familiar to business and leisure travellers alike. The brands are:

  • Dorsett Hotels & Resorts, comprising the upscale Dorsett Grand hotels (Dorsett Grand Chengdu (see here) and Grand Dorsett Subang (Malaysia) among others) and mid-scale Dorsett Hotels (Dorsett Kwun Tong, Hong Kong (see here), Dorsett Kuala Lumpur and soon-to-open Dorsett Singapore (see here), all in central locations.
  • d.Collection, a series of boutique hotels in prime metro locations including Lan Kwai Fong Hotel@Kau Yu Fong, The Mercer, and Cosmo Hotel, Mongkok in Hong Kong
  • Silka Hotels three-star properties offering value for money, and handy, speedy service and attractive room rates (Silka West Kowloon, Silka Far East in Tsuen Wan and Hong Kong Silka Seaview in Yaumatei and in Malaysia, Silka Johor Bahru and Silka Maytower Hotels and Serviced Residences.

The group’s first hotel in Singapore opened last month, while the Dorsett Grand Chengdu and Dorsett Tsuen Wan are scheduled to open this year and next year (2014), respectively. Silka Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong and Dorsett Grand Zhuji as well as Dorsett Zhongshan are expected to open also in 2014, with the group’s first UK hotel, the Dorsett Shepherds Bush in London opening in 2014, followed by Dorsett City in Aldgate, London in 2015

Present at the function at the HKJC Hall, Asia Society Hong Kong Center, Admiralty, Hong Kong along with Dorsett Hospitality and Diamond Resorts Management were Anthony Lau, Executive Director of Hong Kong Tourism Board, Richard M. Daley, Former Mayor of Chicago, and Tung Chee Hwa – Vice-chairperson, 12th CPPCC National Committee.
