Passengers travelling through Stansted airport can now avail of free wifi internet access, thanks to an initiative by new owner Manchester Airports Group.
In January MAG agreed to pay £1.5 billion to purchase the airport from Heathrow (SP) Ltd (formerly BAA), and at the time said that it would use its expertise “to ensure that the airport can fulfil its potential as a high quality alternative London access point for global air travellers” (see online news January 18).
Passengers can log onto the network '_stanstedairport' and benefit from 60 minutes of free wifi, and once registered the system will recognise previously registered devices so passengers will not need to re-register on their next visit.
Meanwhile the airport has secured its first new route since it changed hands, with a twice-weekly Air Moldova service launching on April 29 to Chisinau International airport. Moldova’s national carrier currently operates flights from Gatwick airport.
