Jing An Shangri-La set for June opening

27 Mar 2013

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has announced that the Jing An Shangri-La in West Shanghai will open in June. This will be the group's third hotel in the Chinese metropolis following Pudong Shangri-La in East Shanghai and the newly opened Kerry Hotel Pudong.

The new property will be located right next to Shanghai Exhibition Centre in the top 28 floors of the new Jing An Kerry Centre on Nanjing Road, a 450,000 sqm complex of retail, office and entertainment outlets. It will have direct underground passages connecting it to Metro lines 2 and 7, and be a 45-minute drive from the Pudong airport and 20 minutes from the Hongqiao airport via the nearby Yan'an Middle Ring Road.

The Jing An Shangri-La will comprise 508 rooms, of which 44 will be suites ranging in size between 93 sqm and 311 sqm, while the guestrooms will measure a sizeable 52 sqm-60 sqm. The 56th floor will house the Horizon Lounge with exclusive privileges for guests staying in a premier room or above.

For food and beverage the hotel offers a lobby lounge, a two-level all-day café, a Chinese restaurant and an American bistro and bar. A health club, heated indoor 25-metre sky-domed lap pool and spa, meanwhile, make up the Jing An Shangri-La's recreational facilities.

There will also be a total of 4,465 sqm of meeting and conference space, including a 1,740 sqm Jing An Grand ballroom, a roof garden, 1,039 sqm of pre-function area and 10 individual function rooms.

The hotel will overlook a 3,000 sqm central courtyard piazza with, among other things, the restored home in which Chairman Mao spent several months residing in 1920.

"Together, the three hotels will allow us to accommodate the ever-increasing demand for luxury accommodation and comprehensive meeting facilities in Shanghai on both sides of the river," said Greg Dogan, Shangri-La's president and chief executive officer.

The hotel group's other upcoming China openings include Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu (see here) and the Shangri-La Chongqing (see here).
