Marriott’s luxury JW brand is to open its first property in Italy, with the JW Marriott Venice Resort and Spa schedule to be unveiled in 2014.
The 266-room hotel will be situated on the private island of Sacca Sessola in the Venetian lagoon, and will feature a health club, spa, three swimming pools (indoor, outdoor and rooftop), as well as “an array of restaurants and bars”, and events space including a restored church.
Sacca Sessola is located 15 minutes south of St Mark’s Square by boat, and was home to several hospitals during the 19th and 20th centuries. The island measures around 40 acres and features “expansive parkland and gardens”.
Marriott currently operates five JW properties in Europe: Grosvenor House in London, JW Marriott Bucharest, JW Marriott Cannes, JW Marriott Hotel Ankara, and the recently opened JW Marriott Absheron Baku (see online news May 25, 2012).
