Swiss upgrades web booking services

12 Mar 2013

Swiss has expanded the services it offers customers on its www.swiss.com website.

New options include the opportunity to keep a provisional reservation open for up to 72 hours at a guaranteed rate, before taking the plunge and either cancelling or confirming the ticket. The service costs CHF 25 (US$26.30) per booking and is applicable to all flights with a Swiss flight number. Economy class tickets can be "reserved" for 48 hours, while tickets in other classes can be "held" for up to 72 hours, after which the tickets are automatically confirmed and the passenger is emailed the electronic documents.

Passengers can also now select their seat in any class on long-haul flights, and in business class on short haul. This can be done at booking or any time thereafter, and is free of change for an introductory period. Seats with extra legroom, such as the emergency exit row seats, are not able to be selected.

An automatic check-in option is also available, where passengers are sent their boarding pass 23 hours before departure.

Finally, unusual travel routings are now easier to book. Users of www.swiss.com can now book what they call "open-jaw" flights where the arrival and departure destinations don't necessarily match, as well as trips with one or more intermediate stops.

This follows an initiative by the carrier to boost customer services through social media last year (see more here).
