Ascott opens first Citadines serviced residence in Malaysia

8 Mar 2013

Ascott’s Citadines Uplands Kuching serviced residence opened its doors in Malaysia today.

Regionally, Ascott has more than 1,800 apartment units and 10 properties across the three brands it operates - Ascott, Citadines and Somerset. This serviced apartment is the first Citadines property to open in Malaysia.

Citadines Uplands Kuching has 215 units and is located in Jalan Simpang Tiga, Kuching – a developing commercial and retail district in East Malaysia. The property is 15 minutes away from the Kuching International Airport, the Borneo Convention Center and the Samajaya Free Industrial Zone that houses many local and multinational companies, including US-based semiconductor and solar company MEMC. The area first made its name as a hub for local federal government offices and universities such as the Swinburne University of Technology. The Spring Shopping Center, one of the biggest shopping malls in East Malaysia, is just across the road.

There are six types of apartment set-ups – from studios to two-bedroom suites – each complete with a fully equipped kitchen, home entertainment system and paid internet access. Other facilities include a swimming pool, gymnasium and a meeting room. The property also provides optional services such as courier, babysitting and laundry.

A one bedroom premier living room

Ascott’s presence in Malaysia is due to expand with five more hotels opening in the next three years, including its largest 310-unit Somerset Medini Iskandar in Malaysia’s Johor Bahru region (as reported here) and Ascott Sentral Kuala Lumpur later this year.

“As Malaysia attracts more business travellers through its Economic Transformation Programme, demand for serviced residences will continue to grow,” said Ascott’s regional general manager for Singapore and Malaysia Tan Boon Khai. “We will continue to look for opportunities to deepen our presence in Malaysia.”
