Take it from me. Virgin Atlantic’s Little Red will not change the face of UK domestic aviation in the same way that British Midland did in the early 1980s.
Way back then British Airways, as now, held a monopoly on domestic trunk routes out of London Heathrow. It was also a time when rail wasn’t a serious option for Anglo-Scottish business travel.
BA’s offered passengers ‘turn up and go’ Shuttle flights which, although very convenient for business people, offered no onboard frills (passengers weren’t even offered a glass of water) yet passengers paid handsomely for their tickets.
