Bear Grylls in latest Air New Zealand safety video

26 Feb 2013 by ScottCarey7

Air New Zealand has followed up the viral success of its Hobbit themed in-flight safety video with an outdoor briefing, starring British adventurer Bear Grylls.

Called “The Bear Essentials of Safety,” the video shows Grylls go through the standard touch points of an in-flight safety video, while exploring the lush Routeburn Track near Fiordland, on New Zealand’s South Island.

The safety video rolls out across the entire fleet today, and hopes to follow the success of the carrier’s The Hobbit inspired “An Unexpected Briefing” (see online news November 2012). The video features an appearance from the film’s director and New Zealand native Peter Jackson and, at the time of writing, had racked up nearly 10,500,000 views on YouTube.

Mike Tod, chief marketing and customer officer for Air New Zealand says, “Bear was the ideal partner to help us bring to life important on-board safety messages in a unique and compelling way while at the same time demonstrating the best of what New Zealand has to offer.

“We hope the global attention this safety video will receive generates more awareness of our amazing country and gets a few more bums on seats.”

Online viewers of the “Bear Essentials of Safety” can win a trip for two to New Zealand from anywhere in the world by answering a question below the video, which can be seen here.
