Oneworld member Malaysia Airlines is increasing its luggage allowances by 10kg across economy, business and first classes.
From February 14 economy passengers will benefit from a 30kg allowance, with business class travellers receiving 40kg, and first class passengers 50kg.
The new allowances will take effect for travel from this Thursday, irrespective of when passengers’ tickets were purchased, and will be valid on all flights where a weight system is used, excluding travel to or from LA where a piece system is enforced.
In addition the carrier says it is reducing and simplifying its excess baggage rates, with new charges of 30RM (£6), 60RM (£12) and 90RM (£18) per 5kg of excess weight, depending on the zone of travel. For example flights from Kuala Lumpur and London, Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt will attract the 90RM rate.
MAS joined the Oneworld alliance at the start of this month, and now serves both of its twice-daily London-Kuala Lumpur services with the Airbus A380 superjumbo.
